Lagos communities and entertainment centers enhance security after cinema attack

The incident involved a machete-wielding man who was prevented from entering the cinema, subsequently attacked security guards, killing one and injuring another, before being mobbed to death. The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the details. Security personnel at local entertainment facilities reported adjusting procedures, including closer monitoring of suspicious individuals and increasing manpower.

Residents, like Olufemi Fadahunsi of Lekki Phase One, also confirmed heightened security in their estates, with stricter access control and increased vigilance. Sulyman Bello, President of the Lekki Estates Residents and Stakeholders Association LERSA, confirmed the increased security across communities. He emphasized the need for a systemic approach to eliminate the root cause of such threats, rather than temporary measures.

LERSA has activated its security platform and is reaching out to members, noting that residents, especially those jogging in public areas, are also vulnerable. Bello urged residents to report suspicious activities and called on the Lagos State Government to address the issue of homeless individuals and makeshift settlements in the Lekki axis.
