Work resumes on 118km Bolga-Bawku road as government assures prompt payment
President John Dramani Mahama has commended the Brazilian construction firm Queiroz Galvão Construction QGMI for resuming work on the 117.94-kilometre Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmakom road project. The President inspected the ongoing work on the new Zuarungu Bridge over the Kunbangre River as part of his Resetting Ghana Tour of the Upper East Region. President Mahama noted that financial constraints during a previous administration led to QGMI suspending operations due to a worsening debt crisis that affected the government’s ability to meet financial obligations to contractors. Upon assuming office, the current NDC administration directed the Ministry of Roads and Highways and the Ministry of Finance to engage the contractor and facilitate its return. President Mahama assured that payments for the project, which is considered an associated Big Push project, would be honored promptly. He praised QGMI’s track record in Ghana, including the successful delivery of the Tamale Airport project, and encouraged the firm to maintain high standards. The President highlighted the strategic importance of the highway as a critical link to the Eastern Corridor, aiming to create a seamless transit network connecting the northern and southern parts of the country.
