Turaki-led PDP faction endorses G-100 initiative to challenge APC in 2027 elections
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, has endorsed the G-100 initiative, which aims to form an all-opposition front for the 2027 general elections. This decision was announced by the faction's National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, following the first G-100 meeting held in Abuja. The summit gathered representatives from various opposition parties to explore cooperation and the possibility of presenting a common candidate against the ruling All Progressives Congress. The PDP faction stated its participation is motivated by the hardships Nigerians are reportedly facing under the current APC administration. National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki emphasized that their involvement is based on principles of transparency, equality, data-driven decisions, and egalitarianism, with the goal of providing credible leadership to address poverty and insecurity. The G-100 summit, attended by six opposition parties, agreed to establish committees and working groups to develop proposals for opposition unity, a national reform program, and a roadmap for a common presidential candidate. This move seeks to prevent a repeat of the 2023 presidential election, where opposition votes were divided among multiple candidates, though Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi were absent from the recent summit.
