Katsina approves new equipment for cancer centre to reduce medical tourism

This decision, made during the 14th Regular Meeting of the Katsina State Executive Council for 2026, aims to expand access to specialized healthcare and reduce medical tourism. According to Lawal Rabe, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, the new equipment will enhance the centre's capacity to provide a broad range of specialized services, including medical, surgical, imaging, diagnostic, and laboratory services, with the ability to admit at least 80 patients. This investment is intended to strengthen the state's ability to offer advanced healthcare locally, reducing the need for residents to travel outside Katsina or Nigeria for treatment.

The initiative is also expected to alleviate the financial burden on patients and families associated with seeking specialized care abroad, further positioning the General Amadi Rimi Specialist Hospital as a key referral facility for advanced diagnosis and treatment.
