
Tinubu commends Team Nigeria's 24-medal performance at Commonwealth Games, pledges increased sports investment
President Bola Tinubu congratulated Team Nigeria for securing 24 medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Nigeria's medal haul included 10 gold, seven silver, and seven bronze. In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the athletes' resilience, discipline, and determination, noting that their performance reflected their hard work and perseverance. He stated that the experience gained would foster greater achievements in future international competitions and inspire young Nigerians. The President also commended the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the National Sports Commission for their dedication to sports development and athlete support. He affirmed his administration's commitment to investing in sports development, strengthening sporting institutions, improving training facilities, and creating more opportunities for athletes to excel globally. Team Nigeria's 24 medals in Glasgow follow previous performances, including 35 medals in Birmingham 2022 and 24 medals in Gold Coast 2018.
