Awerco Construction hands over Weija Paediatric Hospital to Health Ministry
Awerco Construction Limited has officially handed over the 130-bed Weija Paediatric Hospital to the Ministry of Health. This handover, which occurred on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the facility's conference room, marks a significant step towards the hospital's opening to the public. The Economic and Organised Crime Office EOCO facilitated a series of engagements between the Ministry of Health and Awerco Construction Limited, the project's contractor, leading to this agreement. The hospital is intended to provide specialized healthcare services to children and families in Weija and surrounding communities. The operationalization of the facility had faced delays and public concern, including protests from residents over its continued closure despite completion. EOCO, however, stated that its investigations into alleged procurement breaches and financial impropriety related to the project are ongoing and will not be affected by the hospital's handover and subsequent operationalization. EOCO commended both parties for their commitment to the national interest and compliance with the terms of the agreement.
