Vice President Opoku-Agyemang criticizes early presidential ambitions within NDC
Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has described early presidential ambitions among some officials of the National Democratic Congress NDC as a "betrayal of the cause of the people." Speaking in an interview on August 7, 2026, Professor Opoku-Agyemang stated that Ghanaians elected the NDC to address the country’s challenges, not for party members to position themselves for the next presidential race. She emphasized that the chances of any NDC official aspiring to lead the party in the future would depend significantly on the performance of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration. The Vice President believes it is too early for party members to focus on the next presidential race when the government’s priority should be delivering on its promises to Ghanaians. She urged a focus on getting the job done, building the nation, and delivering results.
