Ivory Coast cocoa: OIA urged to be transparent after 100,000-ton stock repurchase

While the OIA's president, Siaka Diakité, praised the Ivorian government and President Alassane Ouattara for efforts to set a decent price for producers, other industry stakeholders are demanding a detailed and transparent account of the operation. The Collective of Professional Agricultural Organizations COPA-CI sent a letter to the Coffee-Cocoa Council CCC on August 10, requesting the official publication of the complete list of cooperatives and structures inventoried, their respective volumes, and the entities that benefited from the repurchases, along with the actual volumes removed. The program, which began in late January 2026 under the CCC, saw its operational management fully transferred to the OIA Coffee-Cocoa.

This transfer, formalized on April 9, gave the OIA full responsibility for defining eligibility criteria for cooperatives, selecting structures for unloading operations, and allocating volumes. The CCC's role was limited to quality control, issuing bills of lading, and administrative management of the stabilization fund. As the operation concludes, the OIA Coffee-Cocoa, established in August 2025, is expected to provide clear answers to the questions raised by value chain actors and the farming community regarding the distribution of the 100,000 tons of cocoa.
