
Egypt and Qatar call for return to US-Iran MoU to resume negotiations
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met in Alamein, where they emphasized the importance of returning to the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran. They advocated for building on this MoU to resume negotiations aimed at a final, sustainable agreement that addresses the concerns of all parties and enhances regional security and stability. The ministers also stressed the need for political and diplomatic solutions to regional tensions and highlighted the importance of securing freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law, urging against measures that could disrupt international shipping, trade, energy security, supply chains, and the global economy. Their discussions also covered bilateral relations, major investments, and regional issues including Palestine, Lebanon, and the Horn of Africa, ahead of the seventh session of the Egyptian-Qatari Joint Higher Committee.
