Government efforts double food production in C么te d'Ivoire, enhancing food security
C么te d'Ivoire's government has prioritized food security, aiming to supply markets with food products while maintaining household purchasing power. The country's agriculture sector seeks to address internal and external shocks and ensure food sovereignty. Various programs, such as the Emergency Food Production Program 2PAU-CI, the Food Sector Development Support Project PADSV, and the Government Social Program Support Project Pa-PSGouv, have been implemented. For instance, 2PAU-CI provided over 2,500 tons of fertilizers and 62 tons of seeds to 1,630 producers in the M茅 region, and 1,470 tons of fertilizer and 160 tons of seeds to 3,524 rice farmers in the G么h region. These initiatives have significantly increased the national food supply and ensured regular market provision. From 2011 to 2024, food production more than doubled, rising from 11.5 million to 23.6 million tons. Cereal self-sufficiency improved from 48.3% to 61.5%, and for roots, tubers, and plantains, it reached 100% from 79.8%. White rice production tripled, from 550,000 to 1.55 million tons. Maize volume increased by 173.6%, from 621,790 to 1,701,426 tons. Cassava production grew from 2,359,015 to 8,485,694 tons. Plantain production rose by 46.1% to 2.25 million tons, and yam production increased by 38% to 7,660,870 tons, covering most national consumption needs.
