Cheikh Saadbou A茂dara, Qadiriyya Grand Caliph of West Africa, passes away
The Khadre community in West Africa is mourning the passing of Cheikh Saadbou A茂dara, son of Cheikh Mouhamed Takhiyoullah. His death was announced this weekend by his family via a statement on social media, shared by Elhadrami Bn Cheikh Saadbouh. Cheikh Saadbou A茂dara served as the Grand Caliph of the Tariqa Qadiriyya in West Africa and was considered the doyen of the pious predecessors of this religious lineage. The family's statement paid tribute to him as a "merciful father," a "clement educator," and a "pious and virtuous servant, an ascetic of his time." The text highlighted his role as a moral model within the Muslim community, describing him as a true "school of good morals, humility, and rectitude of heart," who consistently prayed for all the faithful and showed love to all his family members throughout his life. He was the son of Cheikh Mouhamed Takhiyoullah, a descendant of Cheikhna Cheikh Saadbou, who founded the Qadiriyya-Touradiyya path in the 19th century. This spiritual heritage continues to influence several religious centers in Senegal, Mauritania, and across West Africa. As the eldest member of the family and the Grand Caliph of the brotherhood, Cheikh Saadbou A茂dara represented a crucial link in the transmission of this religious heritage, passed down through generations since the Tariqa's founder.
