Sokoto police rescue 32 kidnap victims, foil bandit operation in Rabah Local Government Area
The Sokoto State Police Command, in a joint operation with the military, rescued 32 kidnapped victims and thwarted a bandit attack in Rabah Local Government Area. The incident occurred on Tuesday in Maikujera village, near the border with Zamfara State, after the Divisional Police Officer in Rabah received a distress call about armed bandits invading the area. The bandits were moving with rustled livestock and abducted individuals, firing shots at residents. Police tactical units, including the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Violent Crime Reaction Unit, coordinated with the Nigerian Army’s Forward Operating Base to block escape routes. A fierce gun battle ensued, leading the bandits to abandon their captives and stolen livestock before fleeing. Security operatives then rescued all 32 victims, comprising six adult males and 26 females, mostly children. These individuals are now receiving medical and psychological support and will be reunited with their families. The police reported that four people were killed by the bandits during their initial attack before security forces arrived. The Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, Hayatu Shaffa, offered condolences to the bereaved families and assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators. He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to fighting banditry and kidnapping, urging residents to report suspicious activities.
