AEE Power EPC directors prioritize Spanish judicial inquiry, decline further hearings in Senegal
Directors of AEE Power EPC have opted to prioritize the judicial investigation in Spain, refusing any further hearings in Senegal. This decision comes as they are named in a criminal investigation in Spain but are considered mere witnesses in Dakar for the same facts. Their defense, led by Me Patrick Kabou, stated that new hearings in Senegal are out of the question while an investigation is already underway in Spain. The defense emphasized that one cannot be simultaneously named in a Spanish criminal investigation and testify in Senegal under a complaint against an unknown party for the same facts. They also clarified that this move to Spanish justice does not mean the abandonment of proceedings against deputy Thierno Alassane Sall. The defense maintains that Spanish judicial documents are not to be included in the Dakar file. Jos茅 Gonzalez, one of the individuals involved, does not reside in Senegal and is directly implicated in the Madrid proceedings. The defense also believes that the summonses issued to AEE Power EPC directors lack sufficient procedural guarantees. They assert that if Senegalese justice wishes to continue the investigation, it must consider the ongoing Spanish procedure and the principle of confidentiality of investigation.
