
Seven dead in Samburu helicopter crash at Lolokwe Mountain
A Eurocopter EC130 B4 helicopter, registration 5Y-GYM, crashed at Lolokwe Mountain in Samburu county on August 19, 2026, resulting in the deaths of all seven people on board. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority KCAA confirmed the accident, which occurred at approximately 9:13 AM during a flight from Loisaba to Ewasonyiro. The aircraft was extensively damaged by the impact and a subsequent fire. The Air Accident Investigation Department of the Ministry of Roads and Transport is investigating the cause, with KCAA coordinating with relevant agencies. The victims have been identified as pilot Josh Outran and passengers Roger Duarte, Adam Navaty, Stephen Vascanknez, Henry Parra, Michael Contugi, and Suian Suarez. Recovery efforts at the rugged crash site involved local morans, Kenya Red Cross personnel, and other first responders.
