South Sudan wins second annual Wendok Soccer Tournament in Nebraska
The second edition of the "Wendok Soccer Tournament," a football competition for African communities in Nebraska, USA, concluded with South Sudan defeating Kenya in the final. The tournament, held from July 5 to August 2, aimed to promote social cohesion and fraternity among African communities. Eight teams representing eight communities participated, including ABN FC from Burkina Faso, Team USA, Bana Mboka from Congo, Omaha Elites from Kenya, Nebgam from Gambia, 9JA FC from Nigeria, Sudan, and South Sudan. South Sudan, which was a finalist in the first edition, won the final match against Omaha Elites from Kenya with a score of 3-0. The inaugural tournament's final was won by Somalia, with Burkina Faso playing Nigeria in the third-place match. The patron of the first edition was General Kassoum Coulibaly, former Minister of Defense and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Burkina Faso to Washington. Michael Bayala, the patron for this second edition, expressed pride in the initiative, noting its origins in Burkina Faso and its role in fostering solidarity and social cohesion among young Africans. Organizers, including Julien Koala, expressed gratitude to all communities and partners, acknowledging the success of the event and the strengthened ties between African communities.
