Fire at Musaga substation causes widespread power outage in five Western Kenyan counties
A fire at the Musaga Substation in Kakamega on Friday, August 7, led to a widespread power outage across at least five counties in western Kenya. Kenya Power confirmed the disruption affected customers in Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Siaya, and parts of Vihiga County. The utility issued a customer alert, stating that engineers were rerouting electricity through alternative supply lines to progressively restore power while the incident at the substation was being addressed. Kenya Power apologized to affected customers for the inconvenience. This outage follows a separate nationwide blackout on July 29, which Kenya Power attributed to a technical disturbance on the national grid.
