H2 Global Energy develops two Moroccan hydrogen projects with $3.6 billion potential investment

The first project, located in Béni Mellal, focuses on renewable ammonia production. Currently in the pre-FEED stage, it aims for an electrolysis capacity of 1,300 megawatts and an annual ammonia output of 220,000 to 281,000 tonnes, with an estimated Capex of $2.5 billion and a projected commissioning in 2029. This facility is designed as an off-grid system, powered by solar energy.

The second, less publicized project is in Tangier, dedicated to renewable hydrogen peroxide production. Also in the pre-FEED stage, it targets 28,000 tonnes of hydrogen peroxide annually, supported by 700 MW of wind and solar capacity, with an estimated Capex of $1.1 billion and a planned commissioning in 2028. These projects highlight a shift in Morocco's green hydrogen strategy, exploring inland locations and a diversified range of hydrogen-derived products beyond large-scale export-oriented ammonia facilities.

H2 Global Energy previously announced initial studies for a larger green hydrogen and ammonia project in southern Morocco in February 2025. The current projects are still in early development phases, with the estimated Capex figures representing development-stage estimations rather than committed investments.
