Late President Atta Mills rejected gifted mansion, suggested it be given to the homeless
Wofa Yaw Boateng Gyan, former National Democratic Congress NDC National Organiser, recounted an instance where the late President John Evans Atta Mills declined a lavish mansion offered to him during his presidency. According to Boateng Gyan, President Atta Mills was uncomfortable with excessive gifts and questioned the motives behind them. He described how the President was shown a magnificent house intended for his use during or after his tenure. Despite its grandeur, President Atta Mills rejected the offer, stating it was inappropriate and should instead benefit the less privileged. He questioned if such a gift would have been extended to him if he were merely a lecturer and not president, suggesting the mansion be given to homeless individuals and struggling children.
