Presidency dismisses NPP's 'Democracy Under Attack' petition as lacking substance
Mustapha Gbande, Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, has downplayed the significance of a petition submitted by the opposition New Patriotic Party NPP after their "Democracy Under Attack" demonstration. Gbande stated in an interview on Joy FM on Thursday, August 6, 2026, that the document lacks substance and will not influence government priorities. He asserted that the government is focused on its mandate and addressing Ghanaian concerns, rather than being distracted by what he termed politically motivated activities. Gbande commented, "Let me assure you that that petition they have submitted, nobody is going to have time to read it because it doesn鈥檛 make sense, and nobody is going to waste time. We have a nation to build." He added that the successful protest demonstrated upheld democratic principles and constitutional freedoms, as participants organized without interference and security maintained order. The presidential aide concluded that the petition's issues do not warrant serious government attention, as the administration prioritizes governance and national development.
