
New Patriotic Party calls for Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie's resignation or retraction of political comments
The New Patriotic Party NPP has urged Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie to either retract what it considers partisan political comments or resign and join the National Democratic Congress NDC. This demand follows a circulating video where the Chief Justice reportedly made comparative remarks about the performance of the current NDC government and the previous NPP administration, stating, "Sometimes when we hear how well some state organisations are doing now, we wonder what we really have been doing in the past eight years." The NPP, in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, described these comments as inappropriate for the head of the country's highest judicial office. The party emphasized that the Chief Justice, as the head of an independent arm of government, is expected to maintain political neutrality and uphold the judicial oath. The NPP also expressed concern about the Chief Justice's frequent appearances at events involving political appointees of the current government and his reported commitment to President John Dramani Mahama鈥檚 agenda, especially given that some NPP members are facing prosecution under the government鈥檚 Operation Recover All Loot ORAL initiative.
