Dutch national arrested in Ghana for alleged $6.9 million cocaine export attempt
A 31-year-old Dutch national, Gilano Owin, along with two Ghanaians, John Mensah Sarbah, 41, and Alhaji Iddris Haruna, 52, have been arrested by the Tema Regional Police Command. The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation at a warehouse within the Tema Harbour enclave on August 6, 2026. The suspects were allegedly supervising the loading of sacks of gari into a container on a truck when police intervened. A search of the gari sacks revealed 866 parcels of a white substance, suspected to be cocaine, with an estimated street value of $6.928 million. According to the police, Gilano Owin admitted during interrogation that the substance was cocaine and claimed ownership of it. All three suspects have been detained to assist with investigations, and the recovered substance will undergo forensic examination to confirm its nature and determine the circumstances of its intended export.
