Ghana: Fuel prices projected to rise from September 1 despite cedi appreciation
The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers Ghana COPEC announced that petroleum product prices are expected to increase marginally starting September 1, 2026. This projected rise is primarily attributed to changes in the prices of refined petroleum products on the international market, even though the Ghana cedi recently appreciated against the US dollar. COPEC noted that crude oil prices saw a slight decrease, while the cedi strengthened, improving from GH垄11.800 to GH垄11.5166 per dollar, an appreciation of about 2.39 percent. However, changes in the Free-On-Board prices of refined petroleum products are anticipated to drive pump prices higher. Petrol is projected to reach approximately GH垄16.21 per litre, a 5 percent increase, and diesel prices are expected to rise to about GH垄17.61 per litre, an estimated 2.58 percent increase. LPG prices are also forecast to see a marginal increase, potentially selling at around GH垄14.19 per kilogramme. COPEC indicated that actual consumer prices might vary based on individual Oil Marketing Companies' pricing.
