Ghanaian footballer dies after bus attack in Ashanti region

Ghanaian footballer Dominic Frimpong, 20, of Berekum Chelsea, died Sunday evening from gunshot wounds sustained during an armed attack on his team's bus. The incident occurred in the Ashanti region after a championship match, as armed men targeted the vehicle carrying about 30 players and officials. Police reported that six armed individuals, three of whom carried pump-action shotguns, opened fire on the bus as the driver attempted to evade them. The bus veered off the road and crashed into a bush on the Ahyiresu-Kwame Dwumor Sreso KDS road in the Nyinahin district around 10:30 PM local time. Frimpong was rushed to Bibiani Government Hospital but succumbed to his injuries while receiving care. The police have launched an investigation and deployed additional teams to find the assailants. The Ghana Football Association GFA expressed deep dismay and sadness over the tragic incident, calling for justice and announcing plans to reinforce security measures for clubs traveling for national competitions.
