Manasseh Azure Awuni supports Chief Justice's decision to continue corruption trials during legal vacation
Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has endorsed Chief Justice Paul Baffoe Bonnie's decision to permit certain criminal trials to proceed during the legal vacation. Awuni believes this measure will help prevent delays in corruption-related cases. In a Facebook post on August 6, 2026, he acknowledged the pressures judges face but stressed that the need for judicial rest should not impede speedy trials, particularly in corruption cases. He stated that if he had his way, corruption trials would occur on weekends and Christmas Day. Awuni cautioned against allowing accused individuals to use legal delays to evade accountability, noting that such tactics have been employed previously. He argued that an innocent person should welcome a swift trial to clear their name and urged the judiciary to enhance efforts for faster trials, emphasizing Ghana's need for a system capable of effectively addressing public accountability cases. The Chief Justice has authorized Francis Achibonga and Audrey Kocuvie-Tay to continue presiding over case management and trials for Operation Recover All Loot ORAL cases during the legal vacation.
