Gabon ranked third most dangerous country for solo travelers due to healthcare deficiencies

The study assigns Gabon a risk index of 8.51 out of 10. While this ranking might suggest high crime rates, a closer look reveals that Gabon's position is primarily due to its poor healthcare score, which is 31.5 out of 100. The country has an average of two hospital beds per 1,000 inhabitants, a number that decreases outside major urban centers.

This lack of medical infrastructure significantly impacts the final score, outweighing factors related to violence or instability. The report highlights that among surveyed American travelers, 40% prioritize crime as a concern, followed by political instability at 37%, with health issues at 12%. This indicates a public perception that associates such rankings with violence, even though Gabon's case is different.

Unlike Venezuela, which faces urban insecurity, or Colombia, known for endemic crime, Gabon's high ranking is attributed to its weak hospital network. This ranking comes as Gabon implements its National Sustainable Tourism Strategy. To address this, the country needs to strengthen hospital infrastructure outside Libreville and improve medical coverage for foreign visitors, rather than relying solely on communication efforts.
