Minority Leader clarifies 'grand conspiracy' claim regarding former Chief Justice Torkornoo's removal
Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, stated that his assertion of a "grand conspiracy" behind the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo is based on his personal opinion and understanding of events. Speaking on The KSM Show, Afenyo-Markin suggested that Justice Torkornoo's removal was politically motivated and stemmed from an internal power struggle within the judiciary. He explained that the "grand conspiracy" refers to institutional politics and competition for leadership, where some members might have felt more qualified or senior for the Chief Justice position. Afenyo-Markin acknowledged that others might disagree with his assessment, which he based on his interpretation of the events leading to her removal. He previously alleged that current Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie and other Supreme Court judges were involved in the removal, describing Justice Baffoe-Bonnie as the "grand conspirator." The Minority Leader believes Gertrude Torkornoo's removal was unjustified and expressed a desire for her reinstatement if the NPP returns to power.
