Namibian teenager Tironnen Kadhikwa returns from North Pole science expedition
Fourteen-year-old Namibian Tironnen Kadhikwa has returned from a 10-day expedition to the North Pole, organized by Russian state atomic energy company Rosatom. Kadhikwa traveled to Russia in early August for the "Icebreaker of Knowledge" program, which involved students from around the world who won a science competition. They spent 10 days on the nuclear icebreaker vessel '50 Years of Victory', which travels from Murmansk to the North Pole. Kadhikwa, who loves science and nuclear energy, attended lectures on nuclear reactors and learned about their components. He described seeing a polar bear as his best experience. Kadhikwa follows Teaghan Beresford, 16, who participated in the same program in 2025 as the first Namibian teenager to visit the North Pole. Beresford, who is interested in physics, also shared positive experiences from her trip, including the clean air and the unique color of the Arctic Ocean.
