President Bola Tinubu departs Nigeria for three-week vacation in Europe
President Bola Tinubu has left Nigeria for a three-week vacation in Europe, which is part of his leave for 2026. He departed Abuja on Sunday following official send-off ceremonies. Presidential Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, stated that the break will allow President Tinubu to "refuel" after several months of intense engagement with state matters, including decisions on security and the economy. Dare noted that the campaign season for the 2027 elections has begun, involving months of political activities, though governance will continue. He added that President Tinubu will remain engaged with government affairs while abroad, receiving briefings from ministers and service chiefs. This departure follows an announcement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who indicated that London, United Kingdom, would be the first stop and that the President is expected to return to Nigeria to join the campaign for the January 2027 election. This vacation occurs shortly after Vice President Kashim Shettima returned from his own two-week leave on August 18.
