Kwara State acquires 132-unit federal housing estate to address housing deficit

The Kwara State Government has acquired a 132-unit National Housing Programme Estate in Ogbondoroko, Asa Local Government Area, from the Federal Government. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, represented by the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr Segun Ogunsola, received the documents and keys. AbdulRazaq stated that the acquisition is part of his administration's efforts to bridge the housing deficit and provide sustainable accommodation, noting the estate includes one, two, and three-bedroom units. The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmed Dangiwa, represented by Architect Musa Abdullahi, commended the state for the acquisition and mentioned the federal government's plan to construct a Renewed Housing Estate in Kwara. Dr Shuaib Belgore, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, represented by Dr Toyin Nasamu, described the handover as a celebration of purposeful governance and collaboration. Nigeria faces a significant housing deficit, particularly in urban areas, due to population growth, rural-urban migration, and underinvestment. The National Housing Programme, initiated under former President Muhammadu Buhari, aims to provide affordable housing across Nigeria.
