Former IPOB lawyer urges South-East residents to reject 2027 election boycott

Ejiofor described such a boycott as a "tragedy" that should be avoided. His statement comes after IPOB's spokesman, Emma Powerful, issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, demanding the immediate hearing of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's appeal, threatening an election boycott across the South-East and other parts of "Biafraland" if their demand was not met. Ejiofor argued that electoral boycotts, regardless of their guise, must be unequivocally rejected to prevent the reopening of past wounds.

He questioned the strategy of pursuing political objectives through methods that disproportionately affect the very people they claim to defend, advocating instead for the use of legitimate constitutional, judicial, political, and democratic channels to address grievances. Ejiofor condemned directives aimed at inducing an electoral boycott in Ala-Igbo, emphasizing that the region should not be subjected to destructive political theories and that its people have endured enough suffering. He stressed that patriotism should not involve weakening one's own people or destroying economic foundations, and urged the Igbo nation to protect its peace and strengthen its institutions rather than engaging in political absolutism.
