
Delta State deploys new vessel to enhance maritime security and combat oil theft
The Delta State Government has introduced a new security support vessel, SSV-KALI 3, to bolster maritime security operations and combat oil theft, illegal bunkering, and other crimes on the state's waterways. Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme inducted the vessel, representing Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who stated that the deployment would secure waterways and protect critical oil and gas infrastructure. Oborevwori emphasized that improved maritime security is crucial for protecting investments, increasing production, and fostering a safer business environment in the oil and gas sector. He highlighted that the SSV-KALI 3, designed and constructed within the state, signifies local technical expertise and industrial capacity. The governor also commended the partnership between Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company Limited SEEPCO and the Nigerian Navy, noting its importance for strengthening Nigeria's economy. Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, underscored the strategic cooperation between the Nigerian Navy and private sector operators as essential for protecting Nigeria's maritime environment and critical energy infrastructure. Raj Bhargava, a SEEPCO representative, confirmed the vessel's delivery in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy to enhance maritime safety and protect personnel.
