Former Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei-Mensah announces arrest in 2018 fake audio case

The fabricated audio used his voice to make derogatory remarks about Northerners, leading to years of public criticism for Osei-Mensah. He recounted receiving a WhatsApp message after publicly cursing the perpetrator, which led him to contact the sender. The sender, who identified himself as Akomadan Agyei Nkansah, allegedly began insulting Osei-Mensah.

Osei-Mensah later realized this individual was likely behind the fake audio after receiving another audio from him, which he claimed to have shared with former Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Kofi Jumah, and which also contained insults. Osei-Mensah tracked information about the individual and forwarded it to the Regional Police Command. He stated that the suspect admitted to being behind the audio and video.

The original audio, which circulated in October 2018, prompted Osei-Mensah to issue a press statement denying its authenticity and describing it as a malicious fabrication. National Security had launched investigations in 2018, but no public resolution was announced until now. Osei-Mensah, also a former Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, views the arrest as bringing closure to an issue that significantly impacted his reputation.
