Niger State Police Commissioner requests additional personnel to combat insurgency
The Commissioner of Police for the Niger State Command, Adamu Elleman, has requested more personnel, armored personnel carriers, and modern tools to combat insurgency in the state. This request was made during a visit by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, following the abduction of residents, including worshippers and farmers. Elleman highlighted the challenges faced by the command, such as difficult terrain and a large landmass, but noted successes in arresting bandits, dismantling armed robbery gangs, and recovering stolen livestock. IGP Disu stated his visit was in compliance with President Bola Tinubu's directive to rescue the kidnapped individuals and boost the morale of officers. He condemned the abductions and mentioned the deployment of AIG Victor Olaiya, head of Zone 7, along with counter-terrorism and EOD units, to expedite rescue operations. Disu also urged officers to maintain vigilance, be proactive, and strengthen relationships with traditional, community, and religious leaders to enhance the fight against crime.
