Williams and Alcaraz exit US Open mixed doubles quarter-finals
Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz were eliminated from the US Open mixed doubles tournament after losing to Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli with scores of 5-4, 4-1. This result allows Bencic and Cobolli to advance to Wednesday's finale. Williams, returning to competitive play at Arthur Ashe Stadium since her 2022 retirement, and Alcaraz, back after an injury, had previously defeated Lloyd Glasspool and Emma Routliffe. Bencic, an Olympic Gold medalist, and Cobolli, a French Open runner-up, proved to be strong opponents. Other notable pairs, including Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka, also exited the tournament. The US Open mixed doubles event, in its second year, will crown new champions as defending champions Andrea Vavassori and Sara Errani were defeated. The husband-and-wife team of Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina, who entered with a wildcard, advanced to the semifinals after winning two matches, including a quarterfinal victory over Katerina Siniakova and Henry Patten.
