First lunar hotel planned for 2032, reservations now open

The project involves a deployable inflatable structure transported from Earth, with a more ambitious establishment later built using materials from lunar soil. Launched in January 2026, the project has opened reservations with deposits ranging from $250,000 to $1 million, which do not represent the final price of a stay. Candidates must undergo a selection process.

Founded by Skyler Chan, a graduate of electrical and computer engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, GRU Space received seed funding from Y Combinator. Chan previously worked at Tesla and contributed to a NASA-funded 3D printer sent into space. The company aims to use lunar tourism as the primary commercial demand for its future infrastructure, believing that public programs and billionaire-funded ventures alone are insufficient for sustainable economic activity on the Moon.

GRU Space plans a first mission in 2029 to test the deployment of a small inflatable structure and the transformation of regolith into bricks. A second mission will test a larger inflatable structure in a lunar cavity, which offers protection against radiation and extreme temperature variations. The first hotel is the next step, with a planned launch in 2032.
