Senegalese basketball mourns the passing of former international player Pierre Martin Sagna
The Jeanne d'Arc de Dakar club announced the death of its former member and Senegalese international basketball player, Pierre Martin Sagna, also known as Pierre Sagna, on Tuesday, August 18, 2023, in France. Pierre Sagna was an emblematic figure of the JA, dedicating much of his life to sports, particularly basketball and handball. The club highlighted his commitment and attachment to Jeanne d'Arc, stating he "gave everything" to it. Joseph Gabriel Sambou, president of ASC Jeanne d'Arc, along with the board members, various sections, and the national supporters' committee, expressed deep sadness. The club stated his departure leaves a "huge void in our hearts and minds" and will later provide details on the repatriation of his remains, religious ceremony, and burial. Jeanne d'Arc extended condolences to his wife, Rose Marie Sambou Sagna; his sister, Marie Ang茅lique Sagna Savan茅, and her husband, Landing Savan茅, as well as their children Lamine and Sitapha Savan茅, who are former JA basketball players. Condolences were also extended to Abdourahmane Ndiaye "Adidas," described as his inseparable friend, and to their entire generation. The club offered prayers for Pierre Sagna and extended thoughts to his family, loved ones, and all who knew him during this difficult time.
