FIFA President Infantino's commercialization efforts spark internal conflict and governance concerns

The crisis began in late July when FIFA President Gianni Infantino introduced the FIFA Forward Enterprise, a commercial initiative designed to consolidate FIFA’s commercial rights and tournament operations. This proposal involved selling a 20 to 21 percent minority stake to private investors, with an investment target of approximately $20 billion, aiming to increase development funding for its 210 member associations. The plan suggested raising ordinary FIFA Forward funding from $8 million to $20 million per association for the 2027–2030 cycle, with an optional Fast Forward program potentially increasing it to $40 million.

This incentive raised concerns about an imbalance of power, as smaller associations, reliant on FIFA funds, might be reluctant to challenge the organization.
