Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Yakubu Gowon University partner on diplomatic training

This partnership aims to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign service and align its foreign policy with national development priorities. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Amb Sola Enikanolaiye, announced the collaboration during a courtesy visit from the university's management, led by Vice-Chancellor, Prof Hakeem Fawehinmi. The initiative will focus on training, research, migration management, and promoting ECOWAS awareness among students.

Enikanolaiye emphasized that Nigeria’s foreign policy must be people-centred, supporting the administration’s 4Ds Foreign Policy Doctrine of Demography, Development, Democracy, and Diaspora, to deliver tangible outcomes in prosperity, job creation, security, and well-being. The collaboration will include mid-career training programs, revitalizing the Nigerian Foreign Service Academy, policy research for evidence-based decision-making, promoting managed migration, and establishing ECOWAS clubs in tertiary institutions. Prof Fawehinmi stated that Yakubu Gowon University, with its Directorate of Foreign Studies and Foreign Languages and Centre for Migration and Security Studies, is well-positioned to support these objectives through staff and student exchanges, educational programs, and postgraduate training for ministry officials and diplomats.
