Premier League clubs set new summer transfer spending record at £3.46 billion
Premier League clubs have established a new all-time summer transfer spending record, reaching £3.46 billion during the recent transfer window. This figure surpasses the previous record of £3.14 billion set 12 months prior, with £475 million spent on deadline day alone. The spending highlights a significant increase from five years ago, when clubs spent £1.13 billion. English top-flight clubs also accounted for three of the ten most expensive signings in football history during this window, underscoring the league's financial strength and its ability to attract top players. Manchester City led the spending with £458 million, a new Premier League record for a single transfer window, though they also made £304 million in player sales. Chelsea followed, spending £349 million but achieving a net profit of £33 million from player sales. Tottenham spent £302 million, while newly-promoted Ipswich invested £171 million, outspending Manchester United's £148 million. Hull, another promoted club, made 18 new additions.
