President Tinubu commends rescue of 308 abductees in Kwara and Niger states
President Bola Tinubu praised the rescue of 308 individuals abducted in separate incidents in Kwara and Niger states, calling it Nigeria's largest single-day rescue mission by security agencies. Of those rescued, 163 were from Woro Community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, and 145 were from an attack in Niger State. The victims were freed from the Kainji Lake National Park forest in New Bussa Local Government Area of Niger State through a coordinated, intelligence-led operation involving the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, the Armed Forces, the Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Police Force. President Tinubu commended the security services for their efficiency and collaboration, and directed them to strengthen early warning mechanisms to prevent future mass abductions. The rescued individuals are receiving medical attention and will be reunited with their families after evaluations. The President reaffirmed his administration's commitment to addressing insecurity and protecting communities, noting that large-scale abductions remain a significant challenge in the North-Central region, with armed groups using the Kainji Lake National Park as a hideout.
