Wigwe, who passed away on February 9, 2024, would have turned 60 on August 15. A statement highlighted Wigwe's extensive legacy in banking, education, healthcare, and youth development in Nigeria and beyond. He was recognized for his pivotal role in transforming Access Bank from a Nigerian institution into a financial services group with international operations.

Beyond his banking career, Wigwe dedicated significant resources to building institutions, supporting young people, and creating opportunities for disadvantaged communities. He was also a mentor and a strong advocate for empowering individuals. His influence extended to his role as Chairman of the Bankers' Committee, where he contributed to discussions on Nigeria's banking industry and economy, believing in the private sector's responsibility for national development.

Wigwe's commitment to societal impact was further demonstrated through The HOW Foundation, established in 2016, which supported education, healthcare, mentorship, and youth development programs, including interventions for disadvantaged children and the rehabilitation of primary healthcare centers. One of his most ambitious projects was Wigwe University, reflecting his belief in education's power to transform Africa. His legacy also continues through initiatives like the Fearless L
