Former Knysna mayor Aubrey Tsengwa shot dead, police investigate murder
Aubrey Tsengwa, former mayor of Knysna and an ANC councillor, was shot dead on Wednesday night in Joodsekamp. The South African Police Service Saps is investigating the circumstances surrounding his killing, with detectives from the provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit handling the case. According to Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg, Tsengwa was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his head and upper body and was declared deceased at the scene. He was driving with three passengers when an unknown man opened fire on the vehicle before fleeing on foot. One passenger sustained a gunshot wound to the arm and was hospitalized. Police are also investigating three counts of attempted murder. The motive for the shooting is currently unknown, and no arrests have been made. The DA in Knysna and the Good Party have both expressed their condolences and called for swift action to apprehend those responsible.
