Professor Moussa Seydi abandons Health and Research Organization project after six years
Professor Moussa Seydi, head physician of the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Department SMIT at Fann Hospital, has announced the cessation of the Health and Research Organization HeRO project after six years of efforts. The foundation was intended to support the maintenance and development of SMIT, a key service for infectious disease management. The goal was to establish a sustainable funding mechanism to cover maintenance costs and prevent the new service from falling into disrepair, as the previous SMIT had. Professor Seydi stated that the problem stemmed from an unfulfilled commitment by the Senegalese state to fully maintain SMIT. He conceived HeRO as an alternative solution to preserve infrastructure and ensure its longevity, but the project could not be realized after six years of administrative procedures. Professor Seydi acknowledged the support of notaries Ma卯tre Moustapha Ndiaye and Ma卯tre Tamsir Ndiaye, founding members, researchers, and donors, as well as Yankhoba Seydi, Director of Research and Innovation at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar UCAD. He emphasized that his decision is not due to weariness but a refusal to continue "running in circles." He plans to pursue concrete actions for SMIT with willing collaborators, even outside the initial institutional framework.
