Egypt's Prime Minister reviews seawater desalination progress and local manufacturing efforts
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly recently chaired a meeting to discuss advancements in seawater desalination projects and the localization of manufacturing for related equipment. The meeting included Minister of Housing Randa El-Menshawy, officials from the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater, and executives from Elsewedy Electric. Madbouly affirmed the government's readiness to provide support and incentives to companies, both international and local, that present serious proposals and commit to localizing desalination technology components. El-Menshawy highlighted Egypt's national desalination strategy, which aims for a total capacity of 9 million cubic meters per day by 2050 to support the growth of coastal cities. Ahmed El-Sewedy, CEO of Elsewedy Electric, mentioned ongoing negotiations with global manufacturers to establish local production, with the goal of increasing the domestic component of desalination plants to between 60 and 70 percent.
