Egypt's chemical and fertilizer exports rise 25% to $7.07 billion in first seven months of 2026

This growth, amounting to $1.43 billion, positions chemicals and fertilizers as Egypt’s leading non-oil export sector, accounting for about 23.5 percent of the country’s total non-oil exports. Khaled Aboul Makarem, chairman of the Chemical and Fertilizers Export Council, attributed this rise to the strong performance of subsectors such as petrochemicals, which surged by approximately 85 percent to $1.78 billion. Organic chemical exports increased by 44 percent, while inorganic chemicals and detergents saw growth of 30 percent and 29 percent, respectively.

Fertilizer and plastic exports also expanded. Aboul Makarem noted that efforts to diversify export products and target markets, including Asia, the European Union, and the United States, contributed to these results. Mohamed Maguid, executive director of the council, stated that the European Union remains the largest export market for the sector, with shipments reaching approximately $2.66 billion, a 17 percent increase.

Exports to non-Arab Asian markets climbed by 76 percent to around $1.72 billion, and shipments to the United States increased by nearly 70 percent. The council highlighted that these figures demonstrate the sector's resilience and its ability to capitalize on global market opportunities.
