
Egypt's El-Sisi welcomes China's Xi Jinping for summit talks in Cairo
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his spouse welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping and his spouse at Al-Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo on September 2, 2026. The leaders are holding summit talks to discuss deepening bilateral cooperation and exchanging views on regional and international issues. An official reception, including the playing of national anthems and a guard of honor inspection, was held. This visit marks Xi Jinping's first to Egypt in over a decade and coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, established in 1956. The visit aims to strengthen political, economic, and development ties and follow up on the 2014 comprehensive strategic partnership agreement. Several agreements and memoranda of understanding are expected to be signed.
