Egypt welcomes US President's ceasefire announcement in Lebanon

Egypt welcomed on Thursday US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a ten-day ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, calling it a critical step toward de-escalation, reduced regional tensions, and the cessation of Israeli aggression against Lebanon. In an official statement, Egypt emphasized the necessity of Israel's full commitment to halting all military operations in Lebanon. It reiterated its steadfast support for the unity of the Lebanese state, stressing the importance of respecting Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity while empowering its national institutions. Egypt also reaffirmed its position regarding the necessity of a complete and immediate Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and the full, non-selective implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. Furthermore, Egypt called upon the international community to assume its responsibilities in ensuring the sustainability of the ceasefire. The statement noted that a lasting truce is essential to alleviating the suffering of Lebanese civilians, guaranteeing the safe and consistent delivery of humanitarian aid, and paving the way for the return of displaced persons to their homes.
