Hamas welcomes Arab-Islamic statement condemning Israeli rejection of US peace plan roadmap
Hamas issued a statement on Monday, August 17, 2026, welcoming a joint declaration by the foreign ministers of Egypt, the UAE, Qatar, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia. This declaration condemned the Israeli government's rejection of the roadmap for implementing U.S. President Donald Trump's plan. Hamas commended the foreign ministers for holding Israel responsible for stalling peace efforts and for demanding the full and immediate implementation of the roadmap. The movement also praised the ministers for emphasizing the vital role of the United States, mediators, and the broader Middle East Peace Process in ensuring compliance and advancing the second phase of the plan. Additionally, Hamas supported the ministers' rejection of Israeli efforts to deny Palestinians the right to establish an independent, sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital, noting that occupation, annexation policies, and settlement expansion threaten regional stability. Hamas urged international stakeholders to use active diplomacy to press the Israeli government to fulfill its commitments, end Palestinian suffering, and begin the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
