Egypt to host quadrilateral meeting after US-Iran ceasefire deal

The meeting will include Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and Pakistani Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar. An extended meeting between the four foreign ministers will follow. This gathering occurs days after the United States and Iran signed a Memorandum of Understanding MoU during the G7 summit in France.

The MoU, signed by President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, is an initial step towards ending the war between the two countries, taking immediate effect while a 60-day negotiation period continues for a comprehensive final settlement. The agreement includes the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon. It also outlines a framework for addressing Iran's nuclear program, reopening shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, and lifting sanctions on Tehran.

Egypt and other regional partners have advocated for a diplomatic resolution to the Middle East escalation, which has impacted global energy markets and increased regional tensions.
