Egypt reaffirms one-China principle and support for China's reunification efforts

This reaffirmation was made in a joint statement following discussions between President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and China’s President Xi Jinping in Cairo. The statement explicitly recognized Taiwan as an integral part of the People’s Republic of China and expressed Egypt’s support for China’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and reunification efforts. In return, China acknowledged the critical importance of the Nile River to Egypt and affirmed Egypt’s right to safeguard its water, food security, and development interests.

Both nations urged all Nile Basin countries to adhere to international law, including the principle of not causing harm. The talks between President El-Sisi and President Xi covered bilateral relations, joint investments, and global and regional matters, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Egypt and China. This visit marks President Xi's first to Egypt in a decade, highlighting the comprehensive strategic partnership established in 2014.
